HE ALONE CAN SATISFY

THE SAMARITAN WOMAN

Jesus was travelling through Samaria, when he sat down to rest beside a well. A Samaritan woman came to draw some water and Jesus asked her for a drink. The woman was surprised because the Jews didn’t usually speak to the Samaritans, so she said, “Why are you asking me?” Jesus answered her, “If you knew who I am, you would have asked me for a drink and I would have given you living water.” The woman noticed that he didn’t have a bucket or a rope and so she asked Jesus how he would get this living water. He replied, “Everyone who drinks the water from this well will soon get thirsty again, but anyone who drinks the water that I can give them will never thirst again. The water that I give will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman immediately asked for a drink of the living water, because she didn’t want to have to keep going back to the well for more water.

A DEEP LONGING

Many of us feel that there’s something missing in our lives. No matter how happy we may think we are, our souls are yearning for something more. Why is this? It’s because deep within each one of us, there is a yearning to know and love the One who created us. Sadly, we sometimes try to satisfy this cry from within by trying the things that this world says will bring us happiness, like possessions, power, drink, drugs, or fame. It is when we feel lonely, unhappy or frightened that we’re more likely to be lured into these traps. At the time, they seem to be the only way to free ourselves from the pain and emptiness that we’re feeling and we do not worry about the consequences. It’s only when we try to detach ourselves from these pleasures that we realise they have left us in greater isolation than before.

CRY OUT TO GOD

But, fear not! All we need to do is pray for His help and God will rescue us from the pit that we’ve fallen into. He will pull us out of the chasm of darkness and destruction and into the light of His love. If we choose to embrace this limitless love, He will give us His cup of living waters, The Holy Spirit to drink from. This water will breathe new life into our shrivelled souls and satisfy our thirst for joy and happiness in a way that we cannot even imagine.

PROTECTION

After drinking the living water from Jesus, The Holy Spirit will help us to blossom into the beautiful flowers that we were created to be. So, just like flowers are kept alive by absorbing energy from the Sun, our focus should be on Christ, the giver of all life. Remaining close to Jesus will protect us at all times. “For over all, His glory will be shelter and protection: shade from the parching heat of day, refuge and cover from storm and rain.” (Isaiah 4:6) The Holy Spirit will help us to listen to the still small voice of God speaking in our hearts and guiding us along the right path. He will help us to deepen our faith and trust in the Lord. Why not ask the Lord for a drink of His living water today?

Jesus, i believe that you are the fount of living water. please pour it out into my heart, today. i need your holy Spirit to come into my life. please take away my loneliness, my fear and my pain and protect me from all evil. i trust in you Lord and i ask you to take control of my life today and every day. amen
